An improved OSIRIS NO<sub>2</sub> profile retrieval in the upper troposphere–lower stratosphere and intercomparison with ACE-FTS and SAGE III/ISS

Abstract. The v7.2 NO2 retrieval for the Optical Spectrograph and InfraRed Imager System (OSIRIS) was designed to improve sensitivity in upper troposphere–lower stratosphere (UTLS) reduce an observed low bias previous version, v6.0. details of this are described then data compared coincident profiles from Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment–Fourier Transform Spectrometer (ACE-FTS) Stratospheric Aerosol Gas Experiment III on International Space Station (SAGE III/ISS). PRATMO photochemical box model used account differences measurement times instruments: all datasets were scaled same local solar time 12:00 LST. Coincident ACE-FTS OSIRIS measurements agree within 20 % throughout much stratosphere. SAGE III/ISS also %, with biased at altitudes latitudes. ACE-FTS, OSIRIS, III-ISS monthly zonal mean show very similar variability most altitude
